Journalist Purnima Sriram has become the target of a few perverts and is being harassed online for her comments on a TV show here for a week now. The journalist was part of a debate on Ram Gopal Varma's latest controversial film God, Sex and Truth
by a Telugu news channel. The journalist spoke against sexism and other vulgar comments against women.

According to Purnima, she went to the TV Channel for an interview with RGV and it so happened that they asked her to sit in the debate on the women's side. "Many needless comments were made against women in the programme
and this irked me," she said.

When a man pointed to her that a male's 'software' was necessary for a female to give birth, she said "He couldn't even bring himself to say the correct word, sperm." In a fit of anger, without realising what she was speaking Purnima said that women can give birth to a human baby using a dog's sperm. This became the triggering point for a debate on the social media after the video went viral.

Explaining what she actually meant, Purnima said, "I intended to say that we didn't need sperm to get pregnant. I could even adopt a dog and be a mother to the animal as well."

Without understanding the context, social media was flooded with memes, many of the messages were sexually explicit and abusive. She has been trolled and publicly humiliated for over a week now. In fact, she has become a victim of vicious attacks for no fault of hers. Purnima will soon approach the police and file a formal complaint, she said on Facebook.
