In a latest development, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took into custody a person who was allegedly involved in creating obscene websites and publishing morphed images of popular Telugu film actors on the internet. According to an investigating officer from the CID, the accused is a civil engineer from Boduppal.

The accused was identified as Rudravarapu Raghuvaran, aged 26. Raghuvaran is reportedly employed with a private construction company. He has created a blog-spot and he would post obscene stories along with morphed images of popular Telugu film actors. As the hits increased with such posts, Raghuvaran began earning money through the blog.

Last year, Movie Artists Association (MAA) has filed a complaint with the police in this connection. The latest development came after continuous efforts by the police department to trace Raghuvaran.

“He resorted to such form of crime thinking the sites would fetch him money,” said the officer. The accused was arrested from Medipally in Medchal district.

There were instances when a senior manager of a private company was sentenced to three years in prison for creating a fake Facebook account of a married woman and uploading her morphed nude pictures on it.

Recently Mumbai Police have arrested a person involved in a similar incident, wherein the accused has shared obscene pictures of a girl on WhatsApp groups and Facebook, threatened to rape the girl. It was reported that incidents like this involve one peculiarity. It is sharing obscene content on fake profiles or through fake IDs or in fake Facebook or WhatsApp groups.

The girl approached the police in this regard and a case was filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and IT Act, for sexual harassment and transmission of obscene material.
