Kurnool: You might call it a bizarre ritual but people in Pedda Hulthi village in Kurnool district carry on the age old tradition of queuing up in front of the temple and getting themselves kicked up by 'Thannula Swamy'. People have strong faith the getting kicked by the chief priest brings good luck and all their wishes are granted.

Before the ritual begins, the people offer their prayers at the local deity and then the chief priest carrying idol on his head starts kicking the lined up people.

Apart from this, the district also carries out many bizzare rituals. For instance, a day after Ugadi Kairuppala village in Kurnool district organizes cow dung festival popularly called as 'Pidakala Samaram'. In this event, two communities throw cow dung at each other who believe that prosperity, health and rains are bestowed on the village.

Similarly, Banni Utsavam is held in Devaragattu. This event takes place at the border of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The people attack one another with sticks and try to take the possession of deities used.
