Palanisamy Wins Trust Vote

Amid a day of dramatic developments and high voltage action in Tamil Nadu Assembly, Chief Minister Palanisamy secured trust vote in facile win, but not before day-long ruckus, uproar and unprecedented jostling on Saturday. The whole opposition was not present when the vote was taken. The DMK MLAs were evicted, while Congress and Muslim League MLAs staged a walkout. While Palanisamy secured 122 votes, Paneerselvam could get just 11 votes.

History repeats in Tamil Nadu

It is almost a repeat of history on Saturday as the Trust vote held 30 years ago, saw a similar battle inside the house. The then speaker Pandiyan disqualified all the DMK members and conducted a trust vote, in which Janaki Ramachandran faction was declared a winner despite having only 96 MLAs on its side.

Earlier, the marshals forcibly evicted DMK working president MK Stalin and his MLAs. Several MLAs suffered minor injuries, an many, including Stalin, got their shirts torn.

Stalin said he would meet Tamil Nadu Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao and complain about the happenings in the state assembly. Amid pandemonium, the Tamil Nadu assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Saturday sent out legislators belonging to DMK for creating ruckus and adjourned the House till 3 pm. The DMK leader said he sat in protest inside the assembly to press his demand. Stalin alleged he was forcibly evicted by the marshals and his shirt was damaged.
