“The admission process was postponed in the wake of protests by candidates, who demanded reduction in the minimum qualifying marks by five for all categories," the Times of India reported.

OU registrar Suresh Kumar said that,"We had to halt the process after the High Court had issued an interim order following the notification issued by us in May. After the High Court order, the qualifying marks were reduced by 10 in all categories by the university.

"In 2014, the cut-off marks for research courses at OU were fixed at 50 for general category, 45 for BC and 40 for SC/ST candidates respectively. But now, cutoff marks have been fixed at 40 for general category, 35 for BC and 30 for SC/ST," the report says.

As per notification, candidates with a research fellowship in a national level test such as UGC-NET, CSIR-NET and, ICMR can apply for the PhD programe under category-1.
