Online Rummy Banned In Telangana 

Hyderabad: Now, the gamblers and punters have to watch out before indulging in 'rummy' and 'poker' as the Telangana government has banned online gambling and betting. The Governor ESL Narasimhan has put in effect the Telangana Gaming (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2017. The violators will be fined Rs5,000 and one year jail sentence and if the accused is caught again the penalty will be doubled.

On June 17, the cabinet cleared the ordinance according to which online gamblers and promoters are liable for prosecution. "After the state formation chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao ordered police to crack down on clubs and other places which encourage gambling. But the government received complaints that people are now indulging in online gambling. We want to eliminate gambling in all forms. So the Gaming Act was amended. The cyber police will track online gambling and act against violators," said Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari.

Meanwhile, the companies said that 'rummy' and 'poker' cannot be considered as gambling as the game requires skill and doesn’t rely on luck.
