One More Woman Constable In AP Attempts Suicide Over Harassment By Higher Officials 

Kakinada: Barely two months after a woman constable attempted to commit suicide in Kakinada, another woman constable working at Uppaada Kothapalli police station on Sunday attempted to kill herself by consuming poison.

Vijayakumari, a native of K. Jangavaram in East Godavari district, is reported to have consumed poison after being harassed by higher officials at the police station where she is working. Her condition is stated to be critical, but the police department is trying to hush up the issue by not allowing any information to go out. No visitors are being allowed into the hospital and when Vijayakumari's family members arrived at the hospital, they were sent back by the police assuring them that they would take care of her.

However, the news was already out and women's organizations are demanding action against the police officials responsible for Vijayakumari's extreme step.

With a second such incident within two months, the safety of women in the police department itself, leave alone in the society outside, becomes an issue of social concern.
