YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy addressing public meeting in Guntur district

Guntur: Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh assembly and YSR Congress President, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asked if Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had fulfilled any one of the promises he had made in the last four years. Speaking at a public meeting which was held as part of thr 115th day of Praja Sankalpa Yatra in Pedanandipadu in Pratipadu constituency here today, he said political change would come only when we defeat corrupt and manipulating leaders like Chandrababu.

YSRCP Chief mentioned that one need not be surprised if TDP promises one kilogram of gold and a Benz car to every household in the state during the next elections. "Why did Chandrababu welcome the Special Package instead of Special Category Status (SCS) to AP when it was announced on September 8, 2016? In fact, he welcomed it and even praised the centre in the Assembly. Later, he went to New Delhi and felicitated union finance minister Arun Jaitley. Now once again when the finance minister announced Special Package to AP, why did he ask his ministers to resign from NDA government? Why didn't he ask his ministers to resign then?" asked YS Jagan.

He added that the Andhra Pradesh chief minister had been playing drama with regard to SCS to AP over the last four years, "this is unpardonable." The goal of YSRCP is to see smiles on the faces of farmers and common man in the state, he mentioned. YS Jagan asserted that while the central government had constructed 40 lakh houses for the poor, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy constructed 48 lakh houses in the state, "This was no mean achievement," he added.

YS Jagan pointed out that Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy's dream was to have houses for one and all. "I am here to fulfill that wish." He said that during the last four years TDP government had not constructed a single house. The YSRCP President recalled that his father Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy had constructed 24 lakh houses in 13 districts of AP and added that he would construct a minimum of one lakh more houses so that no poor man would be without a roof over his head.

Addressing a huge gathering, YS Jagan pointed out that the houses that would be constructed would be registered in the name of the women of the house so that during emergencies they could pledge it for getting loans from the bank for an interest of 25 paise. He asserted their government would help in getting such loans for the women.

After YSRCP comes to power, he said their party would extend a helping hand to the needy and mentioned that the old age pension which was given to persons above 65 years would be brought down to 60 years. The Opposition Leader added that the pension would be increased to Rs 2000, similarly the SC, ST, BC and Minority women would be given pensions from the age of 45 years.

The YSRCP President said that in the name of loan waiver, Chandrababu had cheated the state to the tune of Rs 87,000 crores. It was not clear if the farmers got back the gold which they pledged in the banks, but they had got the bank notices for sure, he commented. YS Jagan informed that in neighbouring states like Karnataka and Telangana, fuel prices were lesser by Rs 6-7 and added that the electricity bills in the state were shockers to the public.

He alleged that only 10 per cent of the work had been completed in the Appapuram Channel, while Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy had sanctioned Rs 65 crores for its completion. He wondered why wasn't Chandrababu concerned about the water problems in the region. YS Jagan said that through the Kakumanu-Guntur Channel water for 30000 acres of farming land could be accommodated, but the government was not concerned about it. "Out of 98 villages in this region, 80 per cent of them are in severe water crisis. Farmers from Prakasam were asking for water since long but the government is unconcerned," he told at the public gathering.

YS Jagan said that Chandrababu was not bothered about assuring MSP for farmers who are in distress. He pointed out that the government had itself mentioned that the expenditure involved to irrigate one acre of land would cost Rs 1900, but the MSP was just Rs 1600. He said that same was the case with mirchi (chilli) crop and added that was the reason for him to hold a protest in Guntur Mirchi Yard. He accused that through Heritage he was packing the farmers produce and selling at very high rates.
