Hyderabad: Osmania University, which is gearing up for its centenary celebrations in 2017 is finding itself to be cash strapped to mark the occasion and held a consultative meeting on Tuesday to consult on various ways to source funds. They discussed on modalities to approach former vice chancellors, retired judges and serving bureaucrats for their inputs on the university's centenary celebrations.

The meeting was also attended by the City Mayor B Rammohan and looked into various proposals to mark the occasion including holding year-long celebrations in the districts, felicitating 100 noted alumni to mark the centenary occasion and setting up a 'centenary garden' on a two-acre site at the university.

Apart from seeking state government's help, the university also plans to approach the Union Human Resources Ministry, which it has learnt, had extended special grants of Rs 100 crore to universities that had completed their centenary.

The university is also planning to tap into corporate contributions through the corporate social responsibility route and plans to establish a skill-development-cum-incubation centre that will be named after major contributors.

The university plans to kick off its centenary celebrations from April 26 of 2017.
