Cabs being towed by traffic clearance vehicle at Assembly; driver arrested

Hyderabad: In an intensified protest against the exploitation by Uber and Ola managements, the drivers and franchise cab owners on Thursday attempted to disrupt the ongoing Telangana Legislative Assembly session by laying seize to the Assembly building. Scores of cabs were left on the busy Assembly road in Nampally causing a huge traffic jam in the morning peak hours. The drivers gathered at the Assembly building to participate in their protest programme.

As the traffic jam also disrupted the movement of the Ministers and MLAs attending the session, the police swung into action and towed the vehicles after arresting the striking drivers.

The cab owners and drivers have been demanding government's intervention into their problem for some time. They alleged that the managements are paying them unfair share after promising them Rs75,000 assured income every month. The drivers allege that they are getting not even half the amount and they are in debt trap due to the failure of the cab companies in keeping their promise.

The cab drivers demanded that the state government run the cabs by creating an app and pay them their fair share in the earnings. They demanded a ban on Ola and Uber companies in the state.
