A pregnant woman died at a government-run hospital in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday after a nurse there allegedly attempted to perform an abortion procedure in the absence of a gynaecologist.
According to reports, the deceased is said to be unmarried. She was four months pregnant and wanted to get rid of the feotus. She approached a nurse who agreed to do the procedure.
The incident took place at Kothapeta in Vijayawada. The condition of lady deteriorated during the operation and the nurse got her shifted to a private hospital, where she died.
The relatives of the deceased, carrying her body, staged a protest outside the hospital demanding action against the nurse and hospital superintendent.
