NTPC agrees to provide additional power to AP

Andhra Pradesh, which is reeling under acute power shortage, got some respite today with the NTPC agreeing to provide some additional power.

The state will get an additional power of 335 MW from Simhadri power plant of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), official sources said. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy spoke to NTPC chairman Arup Roy Chowdhary today and succeeded in getting 1160 MW from the Simhadri power plant in the state. AP used to get 825 MW from Simhadri 1, 2 and 3 units till now, they said. Reddy also spoke to Coal India Chairman S Narasing Rao and requested him to supply more coal to Simhadri plant to which the latter agreed, sources said.
