No special status to AP!

It’s now almost official. The Central Government will not give special state status to Hyderabad. This became clear when a TDP delegation of MPs met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Speaking after the meeting, MP JC Diwakar Reddy said the Centre has some legal and technical issues with declaring Hyderabad a special status state. He said the NDA government has assured to allocate funds and incentives to AP, but not special status.

Later, Minister and TDP MP Sujana Chowdary said special state status and industrial package were two different things and that Arun Jaitley has given instructions to increase the industrial package to AP. He expressed the hope that the state would get more financial support.

However, it became clear that the Centre was almost categorical that there would be no special status to Andhra Pradesh. Significantly, this was the point that YS Jagan was seeking to raise through his deeksha on Monday. YS Jagan now stands vindicated.
