Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and Telangana Congress in-charge RC Khuntia said on Sunday no leader in the state had opposed the joining of A. Revanth Reddy into Congress. Khuntia said Revanth's joining Congress party is confirmed but denied having assured the former TDP working president any posts in the party.

Khuntia convened a meeting of the Telangana Congress leaders including TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader K. Jana Reddy and party's leader in the legislative council Md. Shabbir Ali here to discuss about the induction of Revanth Reddy into their party fold.

It may be recalled that Revanth Reddy resigned from the working president post of T-TDP and also quit as MLA on Saturday and is about to join Congress. He represented Kodangal Assembly constituency but as he quit TDP from which he got elected, he also relinquished his Assembly membership.

The Congress which has no hopes of improving its fortunes with the existing setup in the state, was attracting Revanth with a view to getting TDP's vote bank into its kitty in the 2019 general elections. The party's senior leader DK Aruna, who hails from Jogulamba Gadwal district, formerly a part of Mahabubnagar district in which Revanth's Kodangal constituency also falls, was initially not happy about the party's open arm invitation to her former political rival.

However, Khuntia said neither DK Aruna nor any other leader in T-Congress opposed his entry into the party. "The party has not promised him any post whatsoever," Khuntia told media after the meeting with the state Congress leaders.

Revanth along with a group of his supporters is leaving for New Delhi to join the party in the presence of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. Around 30 senior leaders from TDP are joining Congress along with him.

If Revanth's resignation is approved by the Speaker, he will have to go for a by-election within six months. If at all he loses the election, it is going to be disastrous for him as he threw big challenges at the ruling TRS and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
