No. of candidates highest at Kurnool : AP CEO

  State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal said that they had seized an amount of Rs.111 crores since the election code of conduct had come into force in the state.

Speaking to the reporters in Hyderabad on Wednesday, he said, “About 333 candidates are in the fray for 25 Lok Sabha seats in Seemandhra region. Coming to the assembly elections, about 2,243 candidates are contesting for 175 assembly seats in the region.”

He said that about 36 candidates are contesting at Kurnool assembly constituency and the figure is highest in the state.

The official said that campaigning would end on April 28 for the first phase of elections in the state.

“Parties and candidates should not distribute voter slips which contain the symbols. Strict action would be taken against the candidates who violate the rule,” said the CEO.

He warned of serious action if the former ministers participated in any type of election activity by staying in their respective official residences.

“We are using seven helicopters and two air ambulances for the purpose of elections,” said Lal.

He said that they had established about 71,222 polling stations in the state.
