In the last 10 days five women died after C-section

Hyderabad: A three-member committee was formed on Monday to ascertain the cause of deaths of five women after C-section delivery procedures in the last 10 days at the state-run Niloufer Hospital. Meanwhile, following the tensions all the C-section operations have been put on a hold.

Trouble escalated at the hospital following the death of a woman after she delivered baby following C-section. The kin of the deceased Nusrath Begum (20) staged sit-in protest at the hospital holding the four-day-old baby demanding action against the administration over the death.

In the last 10 days five women including Nusrath died after the C-section. The deceased are - Farah Fatima, Reena, Bushra Begum and Anusha.

The hospital conducted nearly 44 C-sections between January 28 and February 4 and five women died after a cesarean section.

“We have appointed a committee to look into the matter. It is unusual as so much mortality is not expected. The reasons need to be investigated," said hospital superintendent Dr C. Suresh Kumar.

Meanwhile, Director of Medical Education Dr M. Ramani ruled out negligence on part of the management saying that the five deceased suffered from multiple complications like anemia, amniotic fluid embolism, etc.
