Neymar To Undergo Surgery, Set To Miss PSG Clash

In a huge setback to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) ahead of their round-of-16 second leg Champions League match next week against Real Madrid at Parc des Princes, Brazilian player Neymar is set to have a surgery in Brazil on his fractured foot, ruling him out of PSG’s .

“After an initial treatment period of three days in line with a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team. He will be operated on by doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and accompanied by PSG's Professor Gerard Saillant ” P.S.G. said in a statement.

P.S.G. broke football’s transfer record last summer by paying Barcelona 222 million euros to get Neymar. One of the prime reasons for PSG’s expensive buyout was to win the Champions League title. But those hopes took a massive blow when he was injured on Sunday during P.S.G.’s 3-0 win over Marseille. Tests later revealed he had a cracked fifth metatarsal in his right foot along with an ankle injury, reports said.

However, the team has not stated how long Neymar will miss, but sources suggested his father indicated that it will be somewhere between six to eight weeks.

Following his injury during the Marsielle game, Neymar posted a message to his Instagram account with a quote from Michael Jordan in the caption.

His Instagram post read, "Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't give up. Figure out how to climb it."

The French League leaders will hope to advance into the quarter finals, even without Neymar with the team, boasting the likes of Marco Veratti, Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
