What's Next For Telangana BJP? Who Will Lead It In Lok Sabha Polls?

11 Dec, 2023 13:05 IST|Sakshi Post

The Telangana Assembly election results highlighted the BJP's weakness in the state, as the Lotus party secured a mere 8 Assembly seats out of the 119 constituencies. While it allocated 8 seats to ally Janasena, the BJP contested the remaining seats. However, the results were quite disappointing, struggling to reach double digits.

Senior leaders such as Bandi Sanjay, Etela Rajendar, Dharmapuri Aravind, and Raghunandan Rao faced a significant setback. Despite the BJP's claim to be the alternative for the KCR-led BRS in the state, the people's mandate proved otherwise. The Congress secured 64 MLAs, and MIM won 7 seats.

The approach and strategy that the BJP adopted for the Telangana Assembly elections are now being questioned and require reconsideration. Additionally, the change in the party's leadership has become a focal point. Notably, Bandi Sanjay was replaced by Kishan Reddy as the state chief. Many BJP leaders opine that a more aggressive stance on Hindutva is necessary for the party to perform better. Of the 8 elected MLAs, 7 are first-timers, with only Raja Singh (Gosha Mahal) winning three times.

The prominent figures in the BJP suffered defeats. This is despite the likes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and senior leaders of the BJP aggressively campaigning in the state, prompting calls for introspection.

With the Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, the BJP aims to address its past mistakes and formulate a new strategy. The Saffron party is currently contemplating who will be the next state president and who'll lead the party to considerable seats in the Lok Sabha. Let's wait and watch.
