Hyderabad: Telangana Congress is planning to take on KCR on his BRS party’s stronghold in Khammam. Ahead of Assembly elections in Telangana, Congress has managed to woo former minister Jupally Krishna Rao and former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy. Assembly elections in the state are due later this year.

Earlier in the day, Congress held a meeting at AICC headquarters in the national capital. TPCC chief Revanth Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLA Seethakka, Krishna Rao Srinivasa Reddy and over 30 Congress leaders from erstwhile Khammam, Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad districts were among those who attended the meeting.

After their meeting with the Congress leadership on Monday , both the leaders Krishna Rao and Srinivasa Reddy announced that they would join Congress next week. Srinivasa Reddy was a BRS MP from Khammam in the previous Lok Sabha polls.

Krishna Rao and Srinivasa Reddy along with 33 BRS leaders will formally join the Congress at a public rally in Khammam on July 2, Sunday. Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi would address the public meeting.

Addressing a press conference here, Srinivasa Reddy claimed that the pride of Telangana is being lost. He said former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi agreed to bifurcate the Andhra Pradesh state in the hope this would help the separate state prosper, however, this did not happen. The former BRS leader questioned where are the jobs for the Telangana youth.

Jupally Krishna Rao had joined KCR’s BRS party after resigning from Congress in 2011. He won in the 2014 Assembly elections from Kollapur constituency in Mahabubnagar district on a BRS ticket.
