HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is mulling the idea of changing the colours of the city buses on an experimental basis. With VC Sajjanar taking over as the new Managing Director of the State-run corporation, he has initiated several measures to revive the body which is running in losses due to the COVID pandemic.

As part of this, RTC officials to improve the appearance of the old buses and hope that new colors would bring in added freshness and look to the buses which were lying in the bus depots for almost a year. Since the past month, the RTC has seen improved revenues with buses plying and hopes to further increase them.

In the past 15 years, the colour of the city buses have changed from green to the recent red and white colours of the regular city buses. The old double-decker buses also had the same colors which were initially red and then changed to green. During the tenure of former MD Dinesh Reddy, the colors of the buses underwent a change from red to green.

The RTC officials opine that the citizens would be bored with the old colours. A change in the colour of the buses would also appeal to the public and enhance the look and feel. They are considering using white and combining them with other colours with the intention of making it pleasing. A bus was even painted with the colour to see how it looked. They are planning to try seven other combinations and choose the one that is most appealing. If the experiment is successful, the colours of the district buses will also undergo a change.

Meanwhile, TSRTC MD Sajjanar who took charge as the new MD on September 16 responded to complaints on Twitter that RTC buses were stopping in the middle of the road and picking up passengers, causing accidents and inconvenience to the commuters.

He issued orders to the RTC authorities to stop such improper stoppage of buses and instruct the drivers to adhere to the compliance. The orders said that stopping buses in the middle of the road was against the traffic rules and if the traffic police imposed a fine, the driver would have to bear the costs and that they would face also face disciplinary action for such acts.
