Truckers Protest: Unending Queues, Chaos Outside Petrol Pumps in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Long queues of motorists, two and three-wheeler owners thronged the petrol stations in Hyderabad following the strike by the drivers of tuckers and tankers across the country on Tuesday.

The truck drivers have launched a strike against the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita which carries  an imprisonment for a term of 10 years and a Rs 7 lakh fine in case of hit-and-run incidents. Due to the strike, the supply of fuel at several petrol stations has been affected forcing the management to close their petrol pumps in the city.

The people are angry that the petrol pumps were closed without giving any prior notice to them. They were seen going from one petrol pump to the other to fill the tanks of their vehicles. The mobbing of these fuel stations has triggered a traffic jam at several places in the city.

The representatives of the truckers’ union are scheduled to hold a meeting in the national capital today. The truckers have been protesting the new law for hit-and-run cases and launched their strike on December 31. With the strike entering the third day, petrol pumps in most of the cities and towns have run dry across several states in the country.
