Telangana state government is going to take a call on whether to conduct physical classes in schools from July 1st or not owing to demands and requests made by parents and teachers.

Telangana PRTU (Progressive Recognised Teachers Union), teacher union, met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday and submitted a representation seeking postponement of physical classes in schools by a few weeks. PRTU leaders including MLC K. Janardhan Reddy, K. Raghotham Reddy, PRTU-TS state president P. Sripal Reddy and general secretary B. Kamalakar Rao submitted a letter to KCR in the presence of Education minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy. They said that it is better to continue online classes for a few more weeks due to COVID-19 situation in the state.

Sripal Reddy said that, "The Chief Minister responded positively to our request and agreed to postpone physical classes from July 1. He assured that the government would issue guidelines in a day or two giving clarity on physical classes and online classes."

Because children have not been vaccinated and the majority of teachers have not received the vaccine, union leaders are concerned about the safety of teachers and students if physical classes begin on July 1.

The lockdown in Telangana lifted completely on June 20th. CM KCR announced that all educational institutions can start physical classes from July 1st. After this announcement, most of the parents, students and teachers worried about their safety as many of them haven't been vaccinated.
The government informed the High Court - Students can attend online classes and parents interested in sending their children to schools should submit their consent letter.
