Speeding Cars Collide On Srisailam Highway Killing 7

In a tragic incident, two cars collided with each other at Chennaram Gate of Uppanuntala Mandal, on Hyderabad- Srisailam Highway on Friday. Seven persons, including a woman and a teenager, died on the spot while another person sustained injuries. While the Ford Figo car was returning from Srisailam, a Toyota Etios was travelling towards Srisailam.

According to the police, all the victims were residents of Suchitra and Anandbagh in Hyderabad. The accident occurred around 6 pm while the passengers were returning from Srisailam darshan. The injured person, Naresh Kumar was shifted to a local hospital in Achampet.  

Out of the seven deceased, Vamshi, Venkatesh and one unidentified person aged between 20-30 years were in Figo car. The remaining four in Etios were identified as Shiva Kumar, Murthy, Subbalaxmi and one boy aged about 15 years.

As per the explanation given by locals, police feel that the accident occurred due to the overspeed of the vehicles. Police further added that none of the members in the car wore seat belt and the airbags did not open at the time of accident. 

Responding to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the victims through Twitter.

“Condolences to those, who lost their loved ones in an accident in Nagarkurnool, Telangana. May the injured recover at the earliest. From PMNRF, an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured,” he tweeted.

District Collector L Sharman and Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju visited the accident spot. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao enquired about the accident with Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju and he also expressed shock over the accident.
