Numaish Industrial Exhibition in Nampally to Open in Feb

The most popular trade fair, "Numaish", also known as the Nampally Exhibition, is likely to be reopened later this month. The fair was shut down a day after its inauguration on January 6 due to a spike in COVID and Omicron cases across the state. After a Telangana health official declared that the third wave of COVID has come to an end in the state, the All India Industrial Exhibition Society is planning to resume the fair sometime between February 20-25. Sources say that the authorities have requested the police to give permission to resume the fair for one month. On Wednesday, government officials held a meeting to discuss the proposal. The members of the society and various departments have responded positively. Society will invite the traders again to set up their stalls.

The Numaish will start on February 20 with strict COVID-19 rules like wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, and stall owners should be vaccinated. The organisers had allotted 1,600 stalls where various business organisations from different states would head to the fair to sell their products. The exhibition features dry fruits and handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir, handmade garments from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh, handicraft items from all over India, and electronic goods from the best brands in the country.

Numaish Masnut-e-Mulki, meaning Exhibition of the Local Products, was started in 1938 by a group of graduates of Osmania University to showcase their local products. It was during the reign of the Last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan that this started. From a mere 100 stalls in 1938, started at the Public Gardens, the venue has been shifted to the Exhibition Grounds, near Nampally Railway Station. The original name was changed to All India Industrial Exhibition and was renamed to its original name, the Numaish, in 2009. Earlier in 2019, a massive fire accident took place in the Numaish exhibition. Later, due to the COVID situation in the state, the authorities cancelled the exhibition in 2020 and 2021.
