Hyderabad: The ITE&C Department, Government of Telangana wins AI Gamechanger Award in the Xperience-AI Summit organised by NASSCOM on 5th August 2021. The extensive AI research and projects adopted by the State Govt make way to win this exemplary AI Gamechanger award.

NASSCOM AI Gamechangers was conceptualized to seed awareness and enthusiasm around this wonderful technology and encourage others to emulate the successes in the ecosystem. For a thorough view of the landscape, entries across enterprises, start-ups, government bodies, academic institutes, and NGOs, were invited.

The Government of Telangana realizes the importance of the inclusion of new-age technologies such as Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence in government practices. The use case “Crowd Monitoring using AI” implemented by the State Govt has been awarded the AI Gamechanger Exemplar Award out of 300+ applications from multiple stakeholders. The Startup - Awiros is a technology partner for this project, it is selected by the Telangana Government for implementing AI applications in the state through an online competition and out of 400+ startups. The startup has developed several AI-based applications for better governance and citizen safety, the first of which was an AI-based Crowd Estimation and Management application.

The Counter Intelligence Cell, Govt. of Telangana used the solution Real-time AI-based Crowd Estimation & Prediction in Action, initiated by Emerging Technologies Wing, ITE&C Dept. for estimating and managing crowds, such as during the India vs West Indies T20 match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in 2019 and during the Medaram Jathara festival in 2020. Using this tool, authorities can not only detect but also track the variation in the crowd density in an area from time to time. It can also estimate where the crowd may be expected to surge after analyzing the trend in events like Medaram Jathara Festival. With crowd densities being automatically monitored, authorities can take corrective measures like manpower deployment, public announcement, rerouting crowds to less crowded areas to avoid events such as stampedes.

This has a great potential to simplify the process of crowd management. The application can be used for all kinds of events which sees the participation of large crowd volumes like Religious gatherings, Political rallies, crowdy events like sports, and other public gatherings.
