HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India on Monday announced the bypoll date and schedule for the Munugode Constituency in Nalgonda district in the state of Telangana. Polling will be held on November 3 and the results will be declared on the 6th.
Bypolls to seven vacant assembly seats spread across six states will be held on November 3. Apart from Munugode,bypolls will be held for two seats -- Mokama and Gopalganj -- of Bihar, Andheri (East) of Maharashtra, Adampur of Haryana, Gola Gorakhnath of Uttar Pradesh, and Dhamnagar of Odisha.
The notification for the by polls will be issued on October 7. Nominations will be taken up from October 14 and the last date for withdrawal for nominations is October 17. The counting of votes will take place on November 6, ECI stated in a release.
The bypolls for the Munugodu constituency was necessitated after sitting MLA and former Congress leader Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy resigned from the seat and also the Congress Party and joined the BJP. BJP announced Rajagopal Reddy as its candidate, while the Congress after a lot of deliberations chose Palvai Sravanthi, daughter of veteran party leader and former minister late Palvai Govardhan Reddy. Palvai Goverdhan Reddy was a five-time MLA from Munugode. The TRS meanwhile is yet to announce its candidate name. With both the BJP and Congress candidates belonging to the Reddy community, the TRS is mulling the idea of choosing a candidate from among the BCs who are a majority in the constituency. All eyes are on the TRS now for announcing the name of its candidate which has to be decided by October 14.
