Tension prevailed at Karmanghat area of Rachakonda commissionerate, as few 'Gau Rakshaks' alleged that they were attacked by people transporting cows illegally.

A few youngsters who claimed they were Gau Rakshaks, alleged that they were chased and attacked even as they ran into a temple for cover. They further said that the attackers, who belonged to another community, entered the temple and attacked them. The incident trigged a lot of tension in the area and police perssonel were rushed to the spot to control the situation.

The police said that there was no damage of any vehicle in the incident and further stated that Gau Rakshaks had only staged a protest near the temple demanding the arrest of those who attacked them and transported cows illegally.

A large number of BJP activists gathered outside the temple. Police sub-inspector, Madhava Reddy, of Vanasthalipuram Police station, suffered an injury on his forehead in the stone pelting episode at Karmanghat. He was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment.

An FIR was registered under Sections 307, 295A, 153A, 427, 147, 148 of the IPC against the alleged attackers.

A group of gau rakshaks stopped a pick-up van on Tuesday night, alleging that cows were being transported illegally in the vehicle. Alleging an attack by the transporters, the gau rakshaks staged a protest and demanded that strict action be taken against the transporters. They also sought police protection.
