Hyderabad Police have arrested a serial killer who killed 18 women over a period of 24 years. The man was identified as Maina Ramulu and he started killing women after his wife eloped with another person. He was a resident of Borabanda and was arrested on Tuesday.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Tuesday announced that Ramulu was arrested in a joint operation by Hyderabad and Rachakonda police.
Mahesh Bhagwat, CP Rachakonda said that, "His modus operandi is to target women visiting toddy shops. So far, he killed 18 women in the limits of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy districts."
According to the police, the 45-year-old man would target women found near toddy compounds and would offer money for sex. Later, he used to murder them. Earlier, he was involved in 16 murders and was arrested by police. In 2011, he had escaped from Erragadda Mental Hospital prison section.
It is said that Ramulu who was a native of Sanga Reddy district got married at the age of 21 and after few days, she left him. Since then, he started hating women. He was into criminal activity since 2003. He was a labourer and stone cutter by profession. The police commissioner said that, "Since then he bore a grudge against women and committed serial killings of women."
On January 1st, Kavala Ananthaiah registered a complaint with Jubilee Hills Police Station stating that his wife, Venkatamma went missing on December 30. Police found the dead body of Venkatamma near a railway track at Ankushapur village in Ghatkesar police station limits.
During the investigation, police found that Venkatamma along with Ramulu, the accused went to an isolated area at Ankushapur village in an auto. After consuming liquor, he killed her with a boulder and fled the spot. According to the police, the face of the woman was completley burnt.
On December 10, Ramulu also murdered an unidentified woman aged between 35 and 40 years. He took her to an isolated area that falls under the limits of Japtha Singyaplly village in Siddipet district. He strangulated her with her saree and fled with her valuables.
