Don't Immerse PoP Idols in Hussain Sagar on Ganesh Nimmajjan, Says Telangana High Court

Telangana High Court No To Immersion of POP Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar: HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Thursday denied permission for immersion of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols in the Hussain Sagar. The High Court issued orders to the State Government over the Ganesh celebrations and the Nimmjjanam or the immersion of the idols on the 10th day of the festival. The High Court which was hearing a petition filed by an advocate named M Venumadhav  who sought directions to restrict the immersion of Ganesh and Durga idols in Hussain Sagar which has been a practice every year. The immersion of these idols has caused lot of environmental damage to the lake and this year also the government has gone ahead and creates special facilities for the idol immersion ahead of the festival. "Such idols should be immersed in special created water ponds," the court observed in its directions.

The High Court further instructed the government, police department and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to strictly follow the orders. It also stated that painted idols or ones made of synthetic material should not be immersed at the Tank Bund near Hussain Sagar. The Court also stated that people should not be inconvenienced by the Ganesh Idols placed in public places.

The bench also advised that a special Rubber Dam should be made and encourage the sale of small and environmentally friendly idols.
