Apple's next big software updates are ready for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. At the "Time Flies" event, the company revealed that iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 will start rolling out on Wednesday, September 16th, along with the new watchOS and tvOS updates.

Apple's newest operating system, which was originally unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, can be installed by owners of compatible iPhones starting Wednesday.

The company for the first time previewed a new app organiser and home screen widgets on the iPhone, as well as a more streamlined Siri interface. Coming up to iOS 14, the latest iOS 14 update will also allow you to play a video thumbnail while doing other things and add a face covering to your Memoji. In addition, iOS 14 comes with a built-in translator, an updated Siri, and enhanced security and privacy features in the Safari browser.

iPadOS 14 won't allow you to place widgets on the home screen wherever you like but it builds on what you can do with Apple Pencil. iPadOS 14 's new Scribble function allows you to "write by hand in any text field across iPadOS, and convert your words to text automatically."

Both updates include improvements to messages such as pinned conversations, mentions, and inline responses, maps directions for cycling, incoming calls alerts, privacy upgrades, a new music app, and more.

The company said it would allow iPhone users to opt out of in-app monitoring and now it would not be implemented immediately when iOS 14 comes out. It follows an uproar from ad giants like Facebook who lobbied against the plan. Apple said it will give developers until next year to adjust to the changes. iOS 14 will be supported on iPhone 6s and later lands as a free download.
