Five Official Taliban Websites Vanished From Internet: Here's Why

21 Aug, 2021 14:36 IST|Sakshi Post

The official Taliban websites that delivered messages to Afghans and the world suddenly went offline on Friday. It is not immediately clear why the websites vanished whether there is a technical fault or because of some other reason.

The Taliban sites were operated in five languages Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Urdu and English and all of them appeared to be unreachable on late Friday. These websites were shielded by a San Francisco-based content delivery network and denial-of-service protection provider company named Cloudflare.

The Cloudflare officials, however, has not responded to the request for comment on the development, which was first reported by The Washington Post.

Besides the websites, it is reported that WhatsApp had removed a number of Taliban groups, according to Rita Katz, director of SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks online extremism.

Sources claim that the websites are unreachable because the Taliban secures new hosting arrangements. However, the removal of WhatsApp groups followed the banning of Taliban accounts of Facebook on Tuesday, after the US-backed Afghan government fell to the Taliban.
