HYDERABAD: Facebook-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that allows the user to add contacts by scanning their QR codes. WABetaInfo report says that a new beta version of the app is being tested; QR Code scanning was first introduced in the iOS beta and now has made its way to the Android beta of the app. The feature is available in the 2.20.171 version of the app.

The Snapchat and Instagram like feature is already available in the latest beta versions for both the Android and iOS platforms. With the WhatsApp new feature users can be able to display their own contact QR code as well as scan other people's code. The QR codes can be revoked if users don't want to share their numbers with others.

If anyone wants to send a message on WhatsApp, the contact has to be saved to the phone's address book first. Now QR code makes it easier to add the contact of the person when you are with them in person. However, it is not possible when someone is using the web version of the app.

This new feature will be implemented in the same way for both Android and iOS users. If you see a QR code in the WhatsApp settings then the feature is available for you. To check whether this feature is available on your phone or not, just tap three dots on the right corner in the WhatsApp and go to settings.

Visiting this section, one can see QR code, ready to be shared with new friends. Now, it is very easy to add the contact of the other person through the QR code. Recently, WhatsApp has come up with a new feature wherein eight people be connected through video calling instead of four.
