Royal Challengers Bangalore's long-awaited moment of glory finally arrived on Sunday when the women's side secured their first title after 16 years. In the thrilling WPL final against the Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, RCB emerged victorious, thanks to the outstanding performance of young Bengaluru spinner Shreyanka Patil.

Hailing from Bengaluru, the 21-year-old cricketer represents Karnataka in the domestic team and has swiftly risen through her ranks to earn a spot in the Indian team. Her international journey began in 2023, when she made her debut against the Australian women's team. She has already made a mark in her international career securing 4 wickets in ODIs and 8 wickets in T20Is in 2 and 6 games respectively. During the 2023 auction, she was picked up by the Karnataka based franchise for a mere sum of Rs. 10 Lakh and was retained for the second season, a decision that RCB wouldn't regret.

On the night of the crucial final, the bowling all-rounder showcased her prowess with a destructive four-wicket haul.  She ended up with the figures of 4-12 helping the RCB restrict DC to a modest target of 113. DC were cruising and were 64 for no loss after the powerplay before Shreyanka spun them out. Pairing up with Australian spinner Sophie Molineux, Shreyanka orchestrated a dramatic collapse that saw Delhi lose 10 wickets for 49 runs in front of a packed home crowd.

Throughout the season, Shreyanka demonstrated her brilliance claiming a total of 13 wickets in 8 matches and earning the prestigious purple cap.  Despite a challenging start where she struggled in the initial four matches, Shreyanka bounced back. She was briefly sidelined by the RCB management, but her comeback was nothing short of spectacular as her performance helped RCB clinch its maiden trophy.
