Patel struggled to execute her plan against an opponent who had five Paralympic medals to her, including gold medals in singles in Beijing and London.

Bhavina Patel, who was affected by polio when she was 12 months old, defeated China's world no. 3 Miao Zhang in the semifinals on Saturday, 7-11 11-7 11-4, 9-11 11-8.

Bhavina Patel beat the 2016 Rio Paralympics gold medalist and world number two Borislava Peric Rankovic of Serbia in the quarterfinals on Friday to secure a medal and write history.
