IPL 2021: Dejected Players Return Home After Tournament Cancelled

6 May, 2021 13:08 IST|Sakshi Post

After the Indian Premier League, 2021 was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, eight England cricketers who were helped by the BCCI arrived in London on Wednesday.

The players, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Sam Billings, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, and Jason Roy, arrived in London. They will be in a 10-day quarantine before returning home.

England captain and Kolkata Knight Riders Skipper Eoin Morgan, Dawid Malan, and Chris Jordan are scheduled to fly to London within the next 48 hours. "It is confirmed that eight of the 11 England players in India managed to get on a flight to Heathrow airport last night and have landed this morning," said sources.

On the other hand, Australians were waiting to hear when they could travel to the Maldives for a few days before returning home. The detour was necessitated by the Australian government's travel ban on India, which is in effect until May 15, due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in India.

"All Australians will meet in Delhi and then fly to the Maldives on a charter flight."

The BCCI has been considering a number of possibilities. The Maldives and Sri Lanka are now the only options. "BCCI is planning to arrange a charter to send them back to Australia," sources said.
