AMARAVATI: Minister for Information and Public Relations Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) had criticised opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu for trying to eke out political mileage even while consoling his party members and said that his visit was to settle pending bills rather than instilling confidence in them.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, the Minister said that Chandrababu has been an irresponsible Opposition leader, visiting the State only to sling mud on the government. He said that the State government effectively tackled Covid-19 in both phases and stood second in the country in controlling the pandemic, being a role model for other States. Although the Union Government, Niti Aayog and WHO lauded the measures taken by the State, Chandrababu and his party members are unable to accept it. Right from establishing testing labs to increasing oxygen bed capacity, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had put continuous efforts in fighting Covid, he said.

Minister Perni Nani said that Chandrababu has been insulting the public for defeating him and said that people wouldn't have rejected Naidu, if he had kept his poll promises. Drawing comparison with the previous government, he said that Chandrababu had given over 600 assurances to the people during 2014 elections and hardly fulfilled any of them. However, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had completed over 97 percent of the promises within 20 months and said that the remaining three percent will also be completed.

He said that the Chief Minister promised to provide 2.65 lakh jobs for the unemployed and listed it in the manifesto. As promised, in the first year itself 1.37 lakh jobs were created through Village and Ward Secretariats, and also issued a job calendar. He questioned how many jobs have been given in the five year TDP rule.
