Solapur Telugu Mayor, Husband Test COVID-19 Positive

SOLAPUR: Telugu woman Yannam Kanchana who is the Mayor of Solapur has now tested positive for COVID-19 infection. Her husband Yannam Ramesh was also infected with the infectious virus on Friday.

The couple were immediately shifted to the hospital after being tested positive for coronavirus.  Authorities have sanitized all the surrounding areas of the mayor's residence.

Kanchana is a native of Sadashivpet in Medak district of Telangana. She has been elected as the mayor of Solapur city in Maharashtra in December 2019 elections.

During the lockdown, Kanchan visited several places across the city to inspect the current condition due to lockdown and to bring awareness to people over the deadly COVID-19 virus.  

She also visited COVID-19 hospitals, quarantine and containment areas to inspect the services being provided to people kept in quarantine. She has been suffering from the illness from the past week and now tested positive for coronavirus.

After she has been tested positive for the virus, several employees and officers who had worked along with her were also tested and found negative for COVID-19.
