In the unorganised sector, there are an estimated 38 crore people, and employment opportunities are plentiful (Economic Survey, 2019-20).
E-SHRAM Portal: According to the Labour Ministry, more than 2.5 crore unorganised employees have registered on the e-SHRAM platform. It went on to say that the portal is the first-ever national database of unorganised employees, which includes migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers. According to the Economic Survey 2019-20, the unorganised sector employs around 38 crore people.
On August 26, 2021, the e-Shram site was launched.
Minister of Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav further stated that the fourth week saw a surge in unorganised worker registrations, surpassing 1.71 crores and that as of today, more than 2.51 crore employees had registered on the platform.
The minister also handed out e-Shram cards to unorganised employees and delivered ESIC Covid Relief Scheme permission letters to the dependents of those who died as a result of the pandemic.
