National Tourism Day 2024: To appreciate our country’s beauty and spread awareness of the importance of tourism and its impact on the Indian economy, National Tourism Day is celebrated on January 25 every year. The Tourism Day is a celebration of India’s diverse, cultural, geological, natural, heritage, educational, business, and ecological tourist attractions. 

National Tourism Day aims to encourage global tourists to explore the incomparable beauty of our country which will translate into boosting the economy. On this day, the Ministry of Tourism organised various activities for the promotion and development of Indian tourism as well as coordinates with state bodies to promote local tourism. 

Theme

Every year, the Ministry of Tourism selects a special theme to celebrate this day. The theme for National Tourism Day for the year 2024 is 'Sustainable Journeys, Timeless Memories,' Last year, the theme was "Tourism and Green Investments," emphasising the connection between eco-friendly economic growth and tourism. 

History

India began celebrating the National Tourism Day on January 25, 1948 and the aim was to boost local tourism and promote the country’s cultural legacy. It was a first step to encourage global tourists to explore India’s breathtaking beauty. This day is also celebrated to raise awareness and interest in Indian tourism's social, political, financial, and cultural worth among the global communities. 

Significance

As a country, India offers a wide variety of interesting locations, encompassing wide coastal beaches, rain forests, mountains, waterfalls, diverse wildlife, deserts, snow hills, cultural heritage sites, architectural marvels, business hubs, scenic beauties, adventure sports, and many more. On the 25th of January, we celebrate National Tourism Day to recognize the potential of India in tourism. The day also aims to raise public awareness of the financial, cultural, and social impacts that tourism has on our country's economy.
