Maharashtra Company Uses Discarded Masks Instead Of Cotton In Mattresses

12 Apr, 2021 15:18 IST|Sakshi Post

In a very shocking incident, a mattress-making factory was using discarded masks in the place of cotton or other material to stuff its products. The incident took place in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. Police have registered a case against the owner of the company. The police also recovered piles of masks on the premises.

Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Gawali said that "When the officials visited the premises of the factory in Kusumba village of MIDC, they found a mattress being stuffed with used masks."

He further added that "A case was registered against the factory owner, Amjad Ahmed Mansoori. The police are now probing the involvement of others in the racket."

Then the police have set the piles of used masks lying around the premises on fire. The production of masks increased in India as it is mandatory to wear a mask. The coronavirus pandemic has burdened India's already stressed waste management system. It generated more than 18,000 tonnes of coronavirus-related bio-medical waste between June and September 2020 alone, including gloves and face masks, according to Central Pollution Control Board data.
