MUMBAI: Maharashtra continues to be one of the worst-hit COVID-19 states in the country. In an alarming note, nearly 80 cops in Maharashtra tested positive for coronavirus. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in the police force stands at 1,889 on Tuesday. According to the reports, there are 1,031 active cases while 838 cops have been recovered.
The long hours of duty in some of the worst-hit COVID-19 localities is one of the prime reasons for the cops to fall prey to the infection. The situation is going to be under control with the deployment of 20 companies of Central Armed Police Forces. As a precautionary measure, the police personnel who are above the age of 55 and others with serious ailments are not performing their duties.
In India, the total number of coronavirus cases was set to cross the 1.5 lakh mark soon. There are 80,722 active cases and 60,490 who have been treated and discharged. More than 4,100 deaths reported in the country. Maharashtra alone has 52,667 coronavirus cases and 1,792 people have died due to COVID-19. Mumbai alone reported 1,002 fresh cases in the last 24 hours and the total stands at 32,791.
