Kerala, Only South Indian State Without Oxygen Shortage Despite COVID Cases

28 Apr, 2021 13:20 IST|Sakshi Post

As the Covid cases rise, the hospitals are facing a difficult situation. They are running out of oxygen cylinders. Oxygen shortage is being reported in various states. Karnataka and Maharashtra are on the top. While so many states are suffering, Kerala is probably the only south Indian state that has not reported a shortage.

The cases in Kerala are also high with many being admitted to hospitals daily. It is a positive thing that the state has not run out of oxygen and in fact, has enough to help other neighbouring states as well.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently contact the Kerala state authorities and put in a request for oxygen cylinders. Kerala will soon be dispatching the medical oxygen to be supplied to Delhi.

Kerala along with Maharashtra is the worst-hit state. The second wave of Covid19 has hit them hard as the number of cases increases every day. Last year, Kerala was not in a very good situation as they had to depend on Tamil Nadu and other states for oxygen supply. But things have changed. Now Kerala has become self-dependent. Even Kerala needs liquid oxygen in a high amount, but fortunately, as of now, they have enough supply.

This situation has caused a problem in many hospitals. Patients are now under the critical condition as they are not getting enough oxygen supply. Many hospitals have several patients in serious condition but not even enough oxygen cylinders for half of them. Bengaluru is the worst-hit city of Karnataka.

After Karnataka facing issues with a shortage of oxygen cylinders, Telangana has now reported that the state is set to face an adverse situation. If the cases keep rising and the number of patients getting admitted to the hospital increases, chances are that even Telangana runs out of oxygen cylinders. As of now, the state has enough oxygen supply, but we need to be careful, shared Health Minister Eatala Rajender.
