India is currently struggling hard to overcome the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic but adding to this, some experts have already raised the possibility of a third wave of the pandemic.

India is one of the worst hit nations with the second wave of COVID-19. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 are increasing on a high note. People are facing a lot of problems in the second wave like lack of beds, unavailability of oxygen cylinders, medicines, etc. Most of the people are dying due to breathing problems.

Many factors like proportion of vaccinated people, prevention of super spreader events, how early we can detect new variants, would play a key role in estimating the intensity of the third wave of COVID-19. Experts said that the number of coronavirus cases would increase by mid-may.

The Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that a third wave of Covid-19 was inevitable. Dr K V Vijay Raghavan also stated that the experts had not anticipated the ferocity of the second wave of COVID-19.  He said that everyone should follow COVID-19 behaviour and should be prepared well in advance.

He said that the vaccine could cause the coronavirus to further mutate in order to survive. He said that the vaccines manufactured are effective against the current variants and with each passing day, new strains are evolving.

The only way to reduce the vulnerability is through safe practices and vaccination. The virus can only go from human to human, so masks and social distancing are must. Maintaining personal hygiene, vaccination, tracking the containment areas are important to contain the spread of virus transmission.

India reported 4,01,228 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. More than 4,000 new coronavirus related deaths have been recorded for the first time on a single day, with 4,197 fresh fatalities on May 7.
