Greta Thunberg Toolkit Case: Bengaluru Girl Disha Ravi In The Dock, Check Why Delhi Police Picked Her

BENGALURU: The Delhi police arrested a 22 year-old climate activist named Disha Ravi for her alleged involvement in the sharing of Toolkit. The toolkit was shared by Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on her Twitter handle which she later deleted.

The Delhi police raided Disha Ravi’s home on Saturday and was later arrested. She was charged with sedition and criminal conspiracy and will remain in police custody for five days.

“Disha Ravi, arrested by CyPAD unit of Delhi Police, is an Editor of the Toolkit Google Document and key conspirator in the document's formulation and dissemination. She started a WhatsApp Group and collaborated to make the Toolkit doc. She worked closely with them to draft the doc,” posted Delhi police.

The police further reported that Disha and other conspirators got together with the pro-Khalistani Poetic Justice Foundation and spread disaffection against India. Disha even shared the Toolkit doc with Greta.

They took Disha into custody and seized her electronic devices. This includes her mobile phone and laptop. She has been booked under sedition (IPC Section 124A) and intent to provoke rioting (Section 153).

Police also issued Non-Bailable warrants against two young activists Nikita Jacob and Shantanu in connection with the case. 

Who is Disha Ravi?

Disha is a 22-year-old climate activist and a native of Bengaluru. She is a BBA graduate from Mount Carmel College and is part of the climate activist group called, “Fridays for Future.” She started the Indian wing of the group in 2019.

She has taken part in various campaigns and also organized protests on climate issues. Even her grandparents were farmers and she grew up seeing their struggle.

What is toolkit?

It is a social media document that explains the issue. The document that Disha edited and shared had the action plan for the protest. There was a plan for a social media campaign and to make the farmers protest huge, even outside India.
