12 Jul, 2022 14:49 IST|Sakshi Post

Are you the one who loves to watch the supermoon? Then what are you waiting for...? Get ready to witness this month's full moon on Wednesday. July 13th’s full moon is called "Buck moon" -a reference to the time of year when new antlers are growing on male deer or bucks. Bucks shed and regrow their antlers each year, producing a larger and more impressive set as the years go by. The supermoon will be visible at 2:38pm EDT (12:08am IST, Thursday) on the night of July 13. The supermoon on June 14 was the “Strawberry moon” because it’s the full moon at strawberry harvest time.

NASA in a statement said, "The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from early Tuesday morning through early Friday morning."

What is a supermoon?

The phenomenon whereby the moon appears particularly large in the sky owing to the coincidence of its closest approach to the earth with a full (or new) moon. A supermoon is widely recorded as being much larger and far brighter than the Moon on any other night - and there's an easy explanation for it.

Does the supermoon have any effect on us?

According to the reports, the full Moon or supermoon has been linked with strange or insane behavior, including sleepwalking, suicide, and violence.

Is the supermoon phenomenon a rare one?

The answer is yes. Supermoons only happen three to four times a year, and always appear consecutively. Throughout most of Earth's orbit around the sun, perigee and the full moon do not overlap.
