HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and spokesperson Sambit Patra has been admitted to Medanta Medicity in Gurugram after he showed symptoms of COVID-19. He is a surgeon by profession. He is one of the popular BJP faces on various TV channels. He has more than 4.4 million Twitter followers and defends his party and the government.

On Thursday, Sambit Patra tweeted a series of tweets, including tributes to Veer Savarkar on his birth anniversary. Sambit Patra contested from Puri in Odisha in the Loksabha Elections 2019 but tasted defeat in the hands of Pinaki Misra of Biju Janata Dal.

After the news about Sambit Patra broke out, social media is flooded with speedy recovery messages. Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga tweeted as, “Get well soon Sambit Patra bhai.”

Amit Malviya tweeted as, “I spoke to my friend Sambit Patra. He is in good spirits and fighting back.”

Sanjay Jha of the Congress tweeted, “Wishing my good friend Sambit Patra a quick, great recovery and lots of happiness and good health always. Take care, bro, you will soon be as fit as a fiddle.”

Earlier, Jitendra Awhad of NCP and Ashok Chavan of Congress also tested positive for coronavirus. While Jitendra has recovered, Ashok Chavan is admitted to a hospital in Nanded.

India's COVID-19 cases rose to 1,65,386 and 4,531 people have died due to the coronavirus infection. Anil Vija said that, "The Haryana government has issued orders to completely seal the borders with Delhi except for essential services." He further added that, "The main reason behind the spike in cases in the state, is the entry of people from Delhi into areas of Haryana which share its border with Delhi."
