NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is in the process of creating unique IDs for farmers of the country. The unique identity of the farmer will link the farmer profile with all the agricultural schemes, which have been availed by the farmer. This information was given by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar in a written reply to a question asked in Lok Sabha, on Thursday.
Some of the benefits to the farmers are given below:
i. Provisioning Farmer’s verification through e- Know Your Farmer (e-KYF) which would eliminate the need of re-submitting physical documents to different departments for availing benefit(s) under different schemes.
ii. Access to field-based & customised advisories.
iii. Ease of accessing the damage to crops due to extreme weather conditions.
As of 09.12.2021, the database of farmers registered under PM-KISAN includes 11.64 Crores farmers, as per a statement released by the Ministry.
YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP V Vjayasai Reddy in response to this commended the steps taken by the Union Government of creating unique IDs which will aid the identification process of farmers enrolled under agricultural schemes. This would also eliminate the need of submitting physical documents for availing benefits under other schemes, he tweeted on his social media handle.
Further aiding the identification process of farmers who have been enrolled under the agriculture schemes, GOI has taken a commendable step of creating unique IDs which would eliminate the need of submitting physical documents for availing benefits under other schemes.@nstomar— Vijayasai Reddy V (@VSReddy_MP) December 16, 2021
