Bhopal COVID Patient Dies After Male Nurse Rapes Her

In a very horrific incident, a COVID-19 patient was raped by a male nurse. The incident took place at a government hospital in Bhopal. The incident came to light after one month of the incident.

Going into the details, a 43-year-old woman joined for treatment at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre on April 6th. She was raped by a male nurse and the woman died within 24 hours. She had complained about the incident, identifying the accused in a statement to a doctor.

A complaint was lodged at the Nishatpura Police Station and the accused was arrested. Currently, he is at Bhopal Central Jail as he awaits trial. The accused was identified as Santosh Ahirwar.

Senior police officer Irshad Wali said that the victim had given an application to the police requesting her identity to be protected and the incident not be revealed to anyone. He further added that the information was shared only with the investigating team.

The deceased was the survivor of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy. After the death of the woman, the association of victims of the disaster wrote a letter to health authorities flagging the pathetic condition of COVID wards at the BMHRC.

According to the reports, the accused had also assualted a 24 year old staff nurse. Earlier, he was suspended for drinking while on job. The BMHRC management said that the accused was booked under various sections and the family of rape victim was not even informed about the events.
