Chandigarh: A massive protest broke out in Chandigarh University campus on Saturday, 17 September after objectionable videos of approximately 60 girls were leaked on the internet.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the Punjab government has ordered a probe into the incident. The accused girl, also a student at the university, has been arrested and an FIR under the IT Act has been registered against the accused, police said.

It was alleged that a female student made videos of other girls taking baths in the hostel, which later went viral on social media.

Protestors claimed that some of the affected students attempted suicide following the incident and also the university is trying to hush up the matter.

However, the university's pro-chancellor, RS Biswa said, "During the preliminary investigation conducted by the university, there has been no video found of any student which is objectionable except a personal video shot by a girl which she herself shared with her boyfriend."

Reacting to the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident. "Sad to hear of the incident at Chandigarh University. Our daughters are our pride. We have ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Whoever is guilty will face strict action. I am constantly in touch with the administration. I appeal to all of you to avoid rumours."

Punjab Minister of School Education, Harjot Singh Bains, has appealed to the students of the university to keep calm. No one guilty will be spared, he said.

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister, whose Aam Aadmi Party rules Punjab, termed the incident "shameful" and called for patience.
