Hotel Review: Shangri-La Bengaluru

2 Jun, 2022 09:59 IST|Sakshi Post

If you thought the Garden city of Bengaluru had turned into a concrete jungle, then you haven't seen the hidden gems in the city that promise tranquility despite being located in the heart of the city. One such place worth staying in when you happen to visit Karnataka's capital city is Hotel Shangri-La, located in Vasant Nagar right next to the famous Mount Carmel College.

Talking about the location, Shangri-La is not just close to the Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru), but also only a few kilometres away from major shopping Centres and landmarks.

A stay at Shangri-La is like indulging in sheer luxury, which has to be experienced to be felt. Shangri-La has positioned itself as a business class hotel which usually is known for comfortable stay, strategic location and a working wi-fi connection. However, what sets Shangri-La Bengaluru apart from other hotels is the gastronomic journey. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the hotel is a foodies' paradise. That apart, the rooms have some fantastic views of the city's landscape. The skyline views are simply spectacular to say the least.

Shangri-La Bengaluru is among the largest hotels in the city with nearly 400 rooms. The suites are aesthetically designed, well illuminated, spacious and offers stunning views of the city, thanks to the French windows. One can wake up to panoramic views from the bedroom.

More often that not, even a stay at a 5-star property may not guarantee good food because most luxury hotels always bank on loyal customers and their emphasis is always on impeccable service. However, Shangri-La hotel in Bengaluru offers the best hospitality not to mention great food choices. From a lavish breakfast spread and authentic Punjabi food to Japanese delicacies and a rooftop hangout to unwind after a tiring day, you have them all.

Talking about food. Guests could who opt for bed and breakfast will be treated to a huge platter with options ranging from continental, Indian to Lebanese and South East Asian delicacies!  The Sunday Brunch at B Cafe, Shangri-La Bengaluru is a huge hit not just among guests, but also among the locals.

If you are looking for Indian lunch options, then head to Ssaffron which offers you a good mix of vegetarian and non-veg options. Must try are Dal Makhani, mixed veg curry and spinach Kofta curry with Indian bread options. There's something for biryani lovers too.

For somebody like me who can't get enough of Chinese, the best place would be the Shang Palace. From decor and food options to the way the food is laid out on the temple, this place gets 10/10 in all aspects.

A must try here is the dim sum lunch where you are treated a variety of dim sums starting with Spinach dim sum and green bean dim sum to shiitake and bok choy dim sum to asparagus. You will also be served Crystal dim sum and tofu and Chinese cabbage dumpling. This is a meal in itself. Try the jasmine rice with an accompaniment if you still have an appetite, it's worth it. This is about their Chinese specialty. Should you wish to try Japanese, then head to Yataii. The ambience is beautiful, best for quiet conversations. Speak to the chef for suggestions if you are new to the cuisine.
I sampled their 7 course meal which included soup and appetiser to main course and dessert.

The seaweed salad is a must try, then there are tempura veg, sushi, stir fried edamame beans, tofu, crispy avocado roll  accompanied by pickled cucumber and radish. Yataii at Bengaluru's Shangri-La is by far the best in terms of Japanese cuisine offering options aplenty for both vegetarians and non vegetarians.

Want to unwind? Head to HYPE, a rooftop lounge setting offering spectacular views of the city's skyline. Do try their signature cocktails.

If you want to take your culinary experience a notch up, then you must book the dine at dome in Shangri-La, Bengaluru. This is best for couples looking for intimate dining experiences.

The guest services are great, food is finger-licking good, rooms are spacious, hotel is strategically located and scores high on cleanliness and hygiene.

If you are visiting Bengaluru and looking for a place offering everything under one roof, then head straight to Shangri-La from the airport.
